Live Piano Music, a Japanese Supper, and a Good Cause – Sunday 10th May 2026
We’d love you to join us for something a little special this spring…
On Sunday 10th May 2026, Christian will be performing an evening of Romantic piano works at Oxted United Reformed Church, joined by the very talented Sophia Short. It’s going to be a relaxed, informal night, and we hope a genuinely lovely one, as well as a chance to raise some much-needed funds for children and families spending long stretches in hospital.
Christian Blandford
The programme features music by Rachmaninoff, Debussy and Scriabin, as well as a number of Christian’s own compositions. If you’ve heard his albums (The Waves and Cloud Étude are both on streaming services, if you haven’t), you’ll know exactly what kind of evening to expect.
Sophia Short
Sophia studied Music at St Peter’s College, Oxford, where she was awarded the Jacob Barnes Instrumental Scholarship. A former scholar of Steinway & Sons, she has performed solo recitals at Steinway Hall London (most recently in December 2025) and as a soloist at Cadogan Hall in Chelsea. She currently works at Warner Music and is, we’re told, also training for a marathon, which puts the rest of us to shame.
The Concert
The concert starts at 6:00pm. Entry is free, everyone is truly welcome whatever they are able to give, and we want to make the evening as accessible as possible, particularly for young people.
Suggested donations for the concert:
Under 25s: £10
Adults: £20 or more
Please don’t let those figures put anyone off – whatever you are able to give is genuinely appreciated. If you can Gift Aid your donation, that adds a little extra to the fund at no cost to you.
Supper at Kinjo
From 7:30pm, anyone who’d like to continue the evening is warmly invited to join us for supper at Kinjo, one of Oxted’s best restaurants. It serves excellent Japanese food (the black cod is quite something), and our good friend Graham Ford, co-owner, has created a delicious menu for us which will include some of their signature dishes for the evening. Good food, good company, and a brilliant way to round off the night.
Please make two separate payments if you are joining us for supper and the concert:
1. £40 to Kinjo – paid directly to the restaurant on the night. This covers your supper and welcome drink and goes entirely to the restaurant. Places are limited, so please do let us know as soon as you can if you’d like to join us.
2. Recommended £50 minimum donation to The Christian Blandford Fund – made separately via the donate button below. This is the charitable donation and goes entirely to supporting children and families in hospital. This can be Gift Aided.
Together that’s £90 per person for the concert and supper. We are doing it this way in order to qualify for gift aid. If you are in a position to give more than £50 to the Fund, it is always incredibly gratefully received.
Why This Matters
Many of you have been with us for years, and you know better than anyone why this matters. We have some exciting projects coming up over the next year, and every contribution this evening will make a real and direct difference to children who are seriously ill and the families going through it alongside them. We are incredibly grateful, as always.
Booking
If you’d like to join us for the recital, please make a donation to the fund, and then fill in the short form below so that we can reserve your place. We would also love for you to join us for the fun supper at Kinjo afterwards, please indicate that on the form too, as places are very limited.
We have found, time and again, that when people are given the chance to be generous, they really are. Whether you join us for the concert, the supper, or both… thank you. It means more than we can say.
